The Solstice, Inti Raymi`s party or San Pedro and San Pablo`s party.
The national etno-history registers to this festivity, from the first human establishments in Cochasquí and Puntyatzil, centers of primordial importance in the development of the culture Quitu Cara. Inti Raymi, The Sun´s sacred party, spiritual conjunction of the man's relationship with the nature.
The knowledge in the handling of the agricultural calendar and the precision in the mensuration of the time on the part of our aboriginal ones, they mark terrestrial movements that they associate them with the location of the Sun, so the SOLSTICES Inti Raymi on June 21th and Cápac Raymi on December 22th and EQUINOXES Pawcar Raymi on March 20th and Quilla (or Colla) Raymi on September 22th, celebrations that today identifies them according to the Catholic calendar according to the geographical location: San Luis, San Juan, San Pedro and San Pablo, Our Señora de las Mercedes, Pase del Niño, etc.
In the communities located from the north part of Pichincha County until the Land of the Caranqui in Imbabura, the Inti Raymi is very notorious in its octaves. Drummers, churos and cachos summon to the different partialities from the area to the party beginning, to the “taking of the square” “delivery of branches” and “the starts up of the rooster”. it is June, month of the solstice, the crops glitter and the Aya Humas, Aruchicos, Chinucas and Guangudas; Clowns, Guasicamas and Carishinas, in hardened taquido expressions, go in huddle to the celebration of the Intiwatana (tie of the sun) and celebration of the Pacha Mama, the Land´s Mother that will last until the coming of the equinox on the month of September.
